Founded in 1999, Surf Internet has dedicated decades to building an unparalleled fiber-optic network in the communities it serves. What started out as a service provider based in Elkhart has since expanded into one of the premier resources serving communities across northern Indiana and throughout the Great Lakes region.
“Staying involved in the communities we serve is a big part of who we are,” said Faith Rumfelt, regional market manager. “Across northern Indiana, we stay engaged through local events, partnerships with chambers of commerce, and relationships with organizations that are helping their communities grow and thrive.”
Surf Internet has seen significant growth since the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2020 to 2025, Surf expanded its fiber network to reach more than 42,000 homes and businesses across northern Indiana, with continued growth planned in 2026. In December 2025, the company surpassed a milestone of 250,000 addresses network-wide where its fiber service is available.
Surf Internet has made its impact felt in communities such as Schererville, Crown Point, Valparaiso, Dyer, La Porte, and Merrillville. Additionally, the company has been making a transformative impact in more rural Indiana communities, including Union Mills, Walkerton, and Mill Creek.
“We’re an Elkhart-born company, and over the past few years, we’ve expanded our presence across La Porte County and into Starke, Marshall, Jasper, Lake, and Porter counties,” said Scott Franko, director of business development. “As we’ve grown from serving a few hundred locations to now reaching tens of thousands, we’ve stayed focused on our mission—making sure more people have access to reliable, high-speed fiber internet.”
For any company to sustain long-term growth, it takes more than just a strong product. It requires a commitment to delivering a high-quality customer experience.
“One of the things that I think makes Surf so incredibly different from our competitors is how we are present in the community,” Rumfelt said. “When storms impacted areas like Three Rivers, Michigan, our team mobilized in under 24 hours to provide free Wi-Fi access while services were being restored. Being able to step in and help in moments like that really reflects who we are.”
Expanding access to reliable internet is something Surf Internet takes a great deal of pride in, helping support continued growth in the communities it serves.
“Reliable internet gives people more flexibility to stay connected to the communities they care about, whether that means returning home, raising a family, or pursuing new opportunities locally,” Rumfelt said. “It also plays a role in strengthening local economies and building on the momentum already happening in these communities.”
Especially in smaller markets, Surf has seen a shift in awareness over the past few years.
“We’ve seen growing interest in fiber internet across the communities we serve,” Franko said. “Over time, awareness and demand have continued to increase as more people experience the impact reliable connectivity can have on their daily lives.”
Surf Internet plans to continue building on its momentum as it expands across the region.
“We’ll keep investing in the communities we serve and supporting residents, businesses, and local organizations by providing a valuable, affordable service and a strong customer experience, all while staying focused on connecting people to what matters most,” Franko said.
