Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic Partners with The Humane Society of the United States to Promote World Spay Day

Humane-Society-Calumet-AreaHumane Society Calumet Area’s Estelle Marcus Animal Clinic (EMAC) will recognize World Spay Day on Feb. 24. An international campaign of The Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society International and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, World Spay Day promotes the life-saving benefits of spay/neuter.

“Spay/neuter saves pets’ lives while lessening the burden on animal shelters and taxpayers,” said EMAC Clinic Director Sofia Perez. “We are inviting the public to sponsor the spay or neuter of at least one animal—their own, a friend or family member’s, or a shelter animal awaiting adoption—in honor of World Spay Day 2015.”

Information about the benefits of spay/neuter surgeries can be found at the clinic, located at 421 45th St, Munster, Ind. In 2014, EMAC helped prevent pet overpopulation by performing 2,622 spay/neuter surgeries

Since World Spay Day’s inception in 1995 (then called Spay Day USA), thousands of participants have spayed or neutered countless animals in nearly 50 countries. It has been a proud achievement of World Spay Day participants like EMAC and other spay/neuter programs that the number of homeless cats and dogs put down in the U.S. has fallen from approximately 13.5 million in 1973 to fewer than three million currently—all while pet ownership has increased.
