Throughout May, CoAction proudly celebrates Community Action Month and a major milestone 60 years of service to Northwest Indiana. Since 1965, CoAction has been a steady force in the region, helping individuals and families move from crisis to stability and from surviving to thriving.
As the designated Community Action Agency for Lake, Porter, Jasper and Newton Counties, CoAction remains rooted in its founding mission: to reduce poverty, promote health and wellness, and strengthen the economic and social fabric of the community.
In 2024 alone, CoAction delivered life-changing programs to thousands of residents across Northwest Indiana:
For 60 years, CoAction has stood as a vital partner in addressing the needs of Northwest Indiana,” said Gina Gomez, Director of Community Services at CoAction. “Community Action Month reminds us that our mission—investing in people to build resilient, thriving communities—is just as strong today as it was when we began. Our commitment remains unwavering.”
CoAction’s programs are more than services they are lifelines. From parents seeking stability to seniors striving to remain independent, CoAction walks alongside individuals during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, offering care, resources, and connection.
“Community Action Month is more than a celebration,” said Jen Trowbridge, CEO at CoAction. “It’s a reminder of the responsibility we carry to keep showing up, to keep listening, and to keep acting in partnership with the people we serve.”
As it celebrates six decades of impact, CoAction is using the month of May to uplift client stories, spotlight its team and partners, and recommit to building a future where all Northwest Indiana residents have a chance to thrive.
