BucherTech network technician Zach Juhl makes technological and interpersonal connections during first year with the company

Since it was first founded in 2001, Bucher Technologies (BucherTech) has worked to ensure that smaller businesses and organizations throughout Northwest Indiana have access to the same technology utilized by large-scale entities. BucherTech’s team boasts an array of skilled IT professionals who are dedicated to providing each client with the best possible experience.

Network Technician Zach Juhl numbers among the organization’s most passionate employees. This month, Juhl reached his one-year anniversary as a member of the BucherTech team. There are several aspects about his job that Juhl enjoys in particular.

“The people at BucherTech are great,” Juhl said. “I have awesome co-workers. I’m always excited to show up to work and talk with everyone. Everybody’s always interested in how you’re doing. I also enjoy the challenges that each workday offers. There has never been a day when I’ve said to myself, ‘This project is like the one I did last week.’ It’s always something different, and I really like that. It keeps me focused on my work, keeps my mind busy, and helps me stay on top of my game.”

Juhl’s responsibilities as a network technician are quite varied. These include visiting businesses and organizations to set up computer systems for clients, running ethernet lines through buildings and connecting new devices to the local network, and ensuring that clients’ wireless networks are operating smoothly.

Before joining the ButcherTech team, Juhl did freelance video production in Arizona and California for about three years. While managing and editing video files during his videographer days, Juhl realized that he enjoyed working with computers. After returning to his hometown of Valparaiso, he began seeking out employment in the IT field. His mother’s employer used BucherTech for its IT needs, so she suggested that Juhl apply for a job with the company. He got in contact with Ben Bucher, son of BucherTech founder Tim Bucher, who suggested Juhl come back to interview once he had secured more certifications. After several months, Juhl returned to interview and was soon hired.

BucherTech stood out to Juhl as an ideal workplace from the very beginning of the interview process.

“The extent to which BucherTech is integrated with so many organizations here in Northwest Indiana interested me,” Juhl said. “They have a lot of customers, and people seemed really happy with their services. When Ben Bucher told me about the team’s dynamics, he explained how everyone is almost like a family at BucherTech. He told me that the employees support each other, which really stood out to me. They prioritize employee growth here which was something else I really liked. It seemed like a great place to work.”

Always looking for new ways to develop as a technician, Juhl especially appreciates the fact that BucherTech has a training fund that supports employees in their efforts to gain more certifications. He has already received extensive wireless networking training through Unify, a vendor whose services BucherTech uses to assist clients. His training with Unify helped Juhl pick up several new certifications and allowed him to significantly enhance his wireless networking skills.

Juhl looks forward to tackling more projects in the future and feels that BucherTech is uniquely suited to serving so many clients throughout the Region.

“The way we treat our clients sets us apart from other IT companies,” Juhl said. “We do our best to empathize with our clients. We want to solve their problems while making it as convenient and painless as possible. We don’t want them to feel apprehensive that we’re going to be annoyed when they reach out to us. We want them to trust that, when the BucherTech technician gets there, their issue will be taken care of and it’ll be a good time all around.”
