Berglund Construction Delivers Community-Focused Projects Across the Region

From its roots on Chicago’s South Side, Berglund Construction has grown into a nationally recognized construction firm with a strong presence in Northwest Indiana. Specializing in construction management and general contracting, the company brings expertise in new construction, interior renovations, and historic restoration.

“Our focus is partnering with clients to transform communities through innovative construction and preservation,” said Jeff Berglund, Building Division President and Chief Growth Officer.

Berglund’s roots in masonry restoration—particularly facades and tuckpointing—still guide much of its work today. With seven offices across five states, the company remains especially active in Lake, Porter, and La Porte Counties.

“We love working in the Region, and Indiana will probably always be our most active market,” Berglund said. “What matters most is aligning with the right clients and projects where we can make a real impact.”

That impact is visible in recent projects like the new Journeyman Distillery in Valparaiso and the residence hall underway at Purdue University Northwest in Hammond. The latter supports the school’s transition from a commuter campus to a residential one—building on Berglund’s previous work on its Bioscience Innovation Building.

In Gary, Berglund is constructing the Tolleston Opportunity Campus in partnership with Crossroads YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana. In Chesterton, the new Duneland Family YMCA Healthy Living Campus continues the company’s mission of enhancing community infrastructure.

“We’re not just here to build buildings, we want to help shape the future of the communities we serve,” Berglund said.

That dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. The firm was recently nominated for 2025 Contractor of the Year by the Construction Advancement Foundation, in recognition of its strong project portfolio and community-driven approach.

“It was really cool to see our team recognized like this,” Berglund said. “It speaks to the great projects we’ve been part of and the strong relationships we’ve built by being involved from day one.”

Looking ahead, Berglund plans to grow strategically by prioritizing quality partnerships and meaningful work over rapid expansion.

“Our 10-year vision is simple,” said Berglund. “We want every interaction with Berglund Construction—whether it’s a document, a short meeting, or a long project – to be a 10 out of 10 experience.”
