Belvedere Senior Housing hosts 6,000 egg hunt for Easter celebration with residents and the community

As the warmer weather starts to come in for the spring season, residents of the Region are jumping up to get outside and have some fun outdoors. In the theme of Easter, families are hopping with excitement for the annual holiday festivities. On Saturday, March 28, Belvedere Senior Housing celebrated Easter with its annual Easter Egg Hunt for the community.

“This is one of the two monthly events that we have which are open to the public, and it’s one of our biggest family events,” said Andrea Puente, Director of Marketing and Sales at Belvedere. “Our residents have an opportunity to invite the little ones in their family and celebrate together.”

Following an impressive turnout from last year’s Easter Egg Hunt, Belvedere decided to take this year’s event to a whole new level with 6,000 eggs to find – more than twice as many as the year prior.

This event also had an Easter photo stand-in, cookie decorating, coloring sheets, and an opportunity to take pictures with the Easter Bunny.

“A lot of our residents don’t necessarily have little ones who are 10 and under in their family anymore, so to see the joyous memories being created in our residents’ home is a wonderful experience for them,” Puente said. “It brings them a lot of happiness, and they will be talking about it for weeks after.”

As a community that prioritizes love, compassion, and unique experiences for everyone who steps foot inside the community, Belvedere is always looking to organize events that are fun for the entire family.

“While each resident enjoys the comfort and privacy of their own apartment, Belvedere is truly a place they call home,” said Puente. “Our role is to support them with care and intention while creating a warm, welcoming environment where they can gather with loved ones and actively shape the life of our community. Many of our residents even played a meaningful role in preparing the eggs this year, which made the experience all the more special.”

Every year, Belvedere hosts a variety of events that not only welcome the community, but also allow the residents to spend time outside of the community. This includes its annual Longest Day Carnival Fundraiser and the annual Halloween trunk-or-treat tradition. Belvedere’s Easter Egg Hunt acts as a kick off for some of these fun, outdoor activities and more throughout the warmer seasons.

“We do a family event quarterly for them,” Puente said. “We’re really fortunate to have good temperature to create memories at some of these outdoor events.”

Many of the residents took their photo with the Easter Bunny and sat outside to watch how the egg hunt unfolded. The egg hunt took place in the backyard of Belvedere’s campus, and many of the kids were filling up their baskets with eggs at a record pace.

To ensure every resident could share in the joy of the celebration, they received a thoughtfully prepared candy bag. The smiles and gratitude throughout the day were truly heartwarming.

One resident, Marcia H., even took a moment to thank Andrea Puente for the wonderful event, saying, “Good job! There were so many happy kids here!”—a simple yet meaningful reminder that these efforts are deeply appreciated by the residents who call Belvedere home.

The success of this event for both Belvedere and the families in Northwest Indiana who participate in it has helped this event become a tradition that keeps on growing over the years. These events also allow people to see what the Belvedere community has to offer on top of its community-oriented events.

“I love the fact that we do so many public events like this, because it also helps give people some insight on what daily life is like here,” Puente said. “There is a common misconception that assisted-living communities and nursing homes are the same thing, but they serve different purposes. As an assisted-living community, our residents are as independent as they’re able to safely be. It’s great that we get to see them enjoy themselves with something fun.”
