A Valpo Life in the Spotlight: Todd Thomson

A Valpo Life in the Spotlight: Todd Thomson

The New Year is quickly approaching, and as the forward-thinking mindset of January takes hold, people’s motivations and intentions become clear. They often resolve to give back, strengthen the community, and honor those who made the previous years possible. As a Valparaiso resident and CrossPointe Christian Church Executive Minister, Todd Thomson does this every week with his growing congregation.

Thomson is a family man and a source of wisdom and guidance for his community. He lives with his wife Jennifer and their three wonderful children: Isaac, Aubrey, and Adam. Thomson grew up in Lincoln, Illinois, and called Illinois home for many years. Together, they made the faithful jump across state lines in August of 2019. Now, six years later, he and his family proudly call Valparaiso home.

“I’m thrilled to be living in Indiana, because I love the area,” Thomson said. “The people around here are so sincere, loving, and welcoming. It’s really been great for my family and me to be a part of this community.”

Thomson, having spent 20 years with his previous church in Illinois, continues to honor his calling as a minister by faithfully serving his new church community in Indiana. He recognized his path to servanthood from a young age and has been living out those passions ever since.

“Ever since I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a preacher when I grew up,” Thomson said. “It was very early to be thinking about that, but as a child and into my teenage years, I felt God calling me to serve in ministry.”

Thomson earned his undergraduate degree from Lincoln Christian College in 1991 and his Master of Divinity in 2000 from Lincoln Christian Seminary.

Thomson, a full-time minister of 34 years, shows no signs of slowing. At CrossPointe Christian Church, Thomson shares his gifts and heart with the 300-person congregation throughout the week by spreading the word of God, leading men’s groups, and playing an essential role in the growth of the congregation.

“The driving passion for me is seeing people’s lives change. It really is something that I’ve devoted my life to, and there’s nothing I would rather do,” Thomson said. “I was really young when I discovered that living in the right relationship with God through Jesus changed my life. I want to share that with as many people as possible.”

Thomson and CrossPointe Christian Church are welcoming the growth opportunities of 2026 by adding a third Sunday service to the worship schedule in the coming year. The church leadership is optimistic about future endeavors and the potential to expand its impact on the community. Thomson, looking ahead to the bright horizons of 2026, highlights two foundational words to 2025’s successes as the year comes to a close.

“Gratitude and anticipation are big words for me,” Thomson said. “I look at the years ahead, and I’m just confident that the best is yet to come.”

In his free time, Thomson enjoys rooting for the Chicago Bears, going to the gym, and spending quality time with his wife and children.
