A Valpo Life in the Spotlight: Bailey Fairbairn

Most people would take any chance they get to enjoy a sweet treat, especially when it’s something they haven’t tried before. Bailey Fairbairn has always loved baking, and she recently took it to the next level with a baking page she started for the Valparaiso community and beyond to enjoy.

Fairbairn graduated from Wheeler High School and decided to pursue a college nursing program. She had to redo a class, and after a couple of attempts, she decided to move on from nursing and tackle baking.

“I’ve always baked, and I’m always in the kitchen,” Fairbairn said. “I’m going to try to get an associate’s degree in baking and pastry art. I wanted to try and get a business going before I did that to see if it would go off and work out, but baking has always been something that I’ve done.”

This passion for baking helped Fairbairn come up with B-Bug’s Baked Goods, a small, at-home bakery she manages. Throughout her life, Fairbairn has admired baking shows and helping out with a sweet treat whenever she has had the opportunity to do so.

“Growing up, I used to watch a ton of cupcake and baking war shows with my grandma and my mom,” Fairbairn said. “I would stay at different people’s houses, and we would always bake. I wanted to be able to show the same for my son.”

In December 2025, Fairbairn made a Facebook page for B-Bug’s Baked Goods. She started with a standard cookie order and has been making plenty of treats and samples for others ever since.

Fairbairn has been making a variety of different treats since she started and hopes to continue mastering her craft.

“Right now, chocolate chip cookies are a go-to,” Fairbairn said. “I’m also working on getting better at the royal icing sugar cookies because those are really hard. I like to make macaroons, and I just started making some cake pops. They’re fun to create, but they’re not exactly in the form of cake pops. They’re called ‘sick cake-sicles’, and I’m working on getting better at decorating those. As for cupcakes, I can make those all day.”

During the holiday season, Fairbairn created plenty of Christmas cookies. As she continues her baking business, she hopes to expand upon new themes with every order she gets.

“I can have other people suggest what I should do or try, which will add a new challenge,” Fairbairn said. “It won’t just be me doing the same thing every time because I’ll have a different theme to work with.”

Outside of her baking passion, Fairbairn works as a dialysis tech. While her profession doesn’t align with the same field as her kitchen creations, she gets the best of both worlds from working in the mornings and baking in the evenings. She hopes to one day be a stay-at-home mom for her son.

During her free time, Fairbairn enjoys hobbies such as crocheting, reading, and spending time with her son. As she continues to develop her baking page, she’s looking forward to taking strides every day and, quite literally, mixing things up.

“I’m hoping to be able to expand and get better at the craft,” Fairbairn said. “In a lot of ways, it is an artistic type of thing. Even though it’s a challenge, I consider it a fun challenge. I hope that I’m able to conquer the challenges that I’m going to have along the way.”
