A La Porte County Life in the Spotlight: Erica Boyd

Erica Boyd is the founder and owner of Eye Blink Pink Interior Design & Staging, which she launched in March of 2016, and went full-time during COVID-19 after 24 plus years in corporate. The business approaches interior design through the lens of displaying a homeowner’s personality and telling their story. Much of its inspiration stems from Boyd’s childhood experience.

“My mom purchased for me my first Barbie Dream House with all the furnishings, which lead me to be very creative with styling my Barbie Dream House. Before the dollhouse, she started me with a collection of all things Barbie,” Boyd said. “I grew up with a mom who could take something old and make it new.”

Boyd was raised by her mother and grandmother. Growing up, her mom reused materials to make her a Barbie house. Boyd’s mother was always using old materials to enhance their own home to tell their story. Boyd would also visit her father, who styled his home with modern touches.

“It was a beautiful thing to watch people come to our home and wonder where we got the materials and objects from,” Boyd said.

Boyd takes a similar approach when helping her clients with their interior design. She has a name for combining the new and old decor. She calls it modernique.

As far as hobbies, interior design is one of them. She also loves the holidays with family, particularly cooking and gathering for a holiday meal.

“It brings back a lot of childhood memories for me,” Boyd said. “That’s the way I grew up.”

Her family is blended with a total of eight children, with bonus children, combined. She has multiple grandchildren as well. Her husband is her rock and has encouraged her through her multiple projects and business endeavors.

Boyd is also the founder of the non-profit E Marie Project, which allows her to coach and mentor girls and women.

“I’m able to help navigate them through those challenges by using their superpowers,” Boyd said.

The E Marie Project was inspired by her own experience with mentoring and how it brought her to where she is today. It’s through this mentorship that she was able to overcome the challenges that came with being a young mother while trying to discover her own path as a teenager.

Boyd’s passion for her life is certainly evident in her pursuits. She has a desire to learn, which has led her down the path of several business degrees, including an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Between her business degrees and her previous career in corporate, Boyd has experience in corporate development, project management, total quality control management, and other similar professional skills that she applies to Eye Blink Pink Interior Design & Staging’s operations.

For Boyd, much of her story is told through design, both professional and personal.

“I feel like that design tells people who I am,” she said. “It gives me an opportunity to tell my story about how I grew up.”
