A closer look at what Team Chevy’s service department has to offer and an introduction to four new service department hires

Team Chevrolet on 30’s patrons can rest assured that they will receive quality service and a customer-focused experience every time they visit the dealership. Team Chevy staff members pride themselves on ensuring that each customer drives away happy. The dealership’s service department, which caters to all makes and models, is well-known for providing customers with premier repair services. In fact, Team Chevy’s customer satisfaction index is 10% higher than the national average, making it one of the highest – if not the highest – in Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.

When a customer comes in for a walk-in or scheduled appointment, the service team conducts a 28-point inspection on the vehicle, checking parts like the brakes, filters, suspension, and windshield wiper blades. The customer receives a video recording of the inspection, and, if anything of concern comes to light, they will receive a phone call with a repair estimate. Two of the department’s lube techs will work on resolving any issues that are detected during the inspection, typically completing the repairs in under an hour.

There have been several new changes in the service department in recent months. The service department now has extended hours, closing at 6 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. Additionally, Team Chevy’s service department has begun conducting Indiana Department of Transportation inspections. Companies can now bring their work vehicles to Team Chevy each year to have them inspected and officially approved for use. Team Chevy has outfitted its shop with lifts that can support medium duty trucks in the event that these company vehicles require repairs to pass the inspection.

Not only does the service department ensure that its customers are taken care of, it makes sure that its staff members are as well. The department offers an apprenticeship program that enables high-performing lube technicians to work with mentors and receive training that enables them to develop into full-blown service technicians. This program is unique to the Gurley Leep Automotive Family, Team Chevy’s parent company.

Meet several of the service department’s new hires and hear their thoughts on their first months working at Team Chevy!

P.J. Evans, detailer/porter

Nine months at Team Chevy on 30

Moving from Hobart to Hebron lengthened P.J. Evans’ commute to his job in Merrillville, where he worked with his older brother Logan Evans. He began seeking employment elsewhere and was offered a position as a detailer/porter by Michael “Brace” Woolsey, service manager at Team Chevy and a friend of P.J. and Logan Evans’ father. Although P.J. Evans worked on cars as a hobby, this is the first time he did it for a living. He particularly appreciates the fact that he was able to plan his work responsibilities around his school day while he was still a student.

“I enjoy this job a lot,” P.J. Evans said. “I enjoy being around the cars and the other employees here. The people here are cool with each other. It almost feels like one big family – that’s what I believe sets Team Chevy apart. They offer a lot of opportunities for growth out here, so I’m looking forward to going after some higher roles in the future.”

Logan Evans, detailer/porter

Seven months at Team Chevy on 30

Logan Evans worked alongside his younger brother P.J. Evans in Merrillville before taking up a position as a shop hand in Gary. Dissatisfied with his lengthy two-hour commute to work, Logan Evans departed to pursue a new job opportunity. His brother P.J. Evans and Woolsey put in a good word for him, and he was able to secure a job at Team Chevy.

“At my previous job, we knew we had to get the job done, so we tolerated one another, but at Team Chevy, everyone cares about the people above and below them,” Logan Evans said. “I appreciate the fact that they treat their porters well here. I get to manage my own schedule and I get experience cleaning a variety of cars in different ways. I look forward to gaining some more experience and figuring out how I fit into the dealership’s ecosystem.”

Quinten Osburn, lube technician

Five months at team Chevy on 30

As an automotive science student at Universal Technical Institute, Quinten Osburn is required to gain some in-the-field experience. He discovered Team Chevy’s lube technician job listing while hunting for jobs on Indeed. He likes how the Team Chevy crew likes to joke with one another while also knowing when it’s time to buckle down and take care of business.

“I really enjoy the personality of this place,” Osburn said. “The work environment is very comfortable and friendly. You can tell that everyone likes to look out for and take care of one another. I appreciate the opportunity to pick up new skills daily as I learn about what can go wrong with cars and how to resolve those issues. I’m looking forward to becoming what is called a ‘master tech’ and doing some good work here. ”

Dylan Hale, service technician

Four months at Team Chevy on 30

Dylan Hale has always been mechanically inclined, and working on cars has been a hobby of his for a long time. He worked at a number of car repair shops over the years, his most recent role being as a technician in Valpo. After becoming dissatisfied with the way things were being run under new management, Hale decided to seek out a new job. When he applied for a job at Team Chevy, he was nervous that the dealership would write him off for having too little experience. However, he was awarded the position and is deeply grateful to have been given a chance to prove his abilities. He is excited to hone his skills and learn new things about repairing vehicles.

“Working with cars has been a lifestyle for me,” Hale said. ”I love it. Ever since I started working here, everyone was super warm and welcoming. It feels like a family. I’ve always longed to work at a dealership, so this is truly a job made in heaven for me. Knowing that I can fix something for somebody makes me feel good. It’s really satisfying. Our General Manager Dave Brubaker, the other managers, and the rest of the employees have all been awesome and supportive. Overall, I’m pretty happy here and could definitely see myself building a career here at Team Chevy.”
