Philanthropy and purpose create community impact at Methodist Hospitals Foundation’s 13th annual gala

The Methodist Hospitals Foundation rolled out the red carpet for guests at the 13th annual Foundation gala at Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana. The gala – themed “Lights, Camera, Generosity” – brought together healthcare professionals, community leaders, and supporters of the Foundation for a night celebrating philanthropy and community impact.

The gala began with a cocktail hour, letting guests mingle and place bids for the silent auction. Once guests were seated, they had a chance to learn more about the community impact they
generate with their support of Methodist Hospitals during a ceremony presided over by radio journalist Michael Puente.

“Tonight is a celebration of generosity and, more importantly, a celebration of impact,” Methodist Hospitals Foundation Board of Directors President Heather McCarthy said. “Every dollar raised through the Foundation supports programs, technology, services, and initiatives that directly improve the lives of patients and families throughout Northwest Indiana.”

As the cost of healthcare continues to rise, philanthropic endeavors from the communities served by Methodist Hospitals allow the organization to continue providing excellent and life- changing care for the Region at an affordable price.

“I want to recognize the extraordinary people who make Methodist Hospitals what it is,” Methodist Hospitals CEO Matt Doyle said. “Every day, they serve our patients with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication. Philanthropy helps provide the resources, technology, and support systems that our teams need to continue delivering exceptional care throughout Northwest Indiana.”

Methodist Hospitals is built on a foundation of partnerships, and in addition to acknowledging providers for the consistent care they provide to patients, the evening also recognized the important role that partners play in fulfilling Methodist Hospitals’ mission.

Special recognition was given to F. “Ritchey” Eibel, community leader and Methodist Hospital’s Board of Directors’ life advisory member, who has offered the hospital his time and support for over 50 years. Eibel was honored with the Champion Medal to audience applause.

Throughout his life, Eibel has remained consistent in his support for the Northwest Indiana region, serving as a leader to organizations like Merrillville Methodist Church, the Gary Lions Club, and Shriners Children’s Hospital. He also served on Methodist Hospitals’ Board of Directors and donated his time as a hospital volunteer.

“What defines Ritchey most is his unwavering commitment to service,” Board of Directors Chairman Robert Johnson said. “His involvement in civic, charitable, and faith-based organizations has touched countless lives.”

Johnson was also honored for his role as Board Chairman over the past six years. Incoming Board Chairman John Lowenstine presented Johnson with a gift for his service. The gala wouldn’t be possible without its sponsors, including U.S. Steel Corporation, Intelas Healthcare, Centier Bank, Hard Rock Casino, Superior Ambulance, Shepherd Insurance, and Methodist Medical Staff.

“When we talk about Methodist Hospitals, we’re talking about far more than buildings or healthcare systems. We are talking about a cornerstone of this community,” Celina Weatherwax, Methodist Hospitals executive director, said. “Methodist Hospitals generates more than $1.2 billion in economic impact throughout Northwest Indiana and provides more than $120 million in uncompensated care annually, but the true impact cannot be measured in numbers alone. It is measured in the lives saved, families comforted, communities strengthened, and hope restored. Every day, Methodist Hospitals cares for thousands of individuals regardless of their ability to pay. That is the power of mission-driven healthcare.”

The evening concluded with over $333,176 raised to continue allowing Methodist Hospitals to provide necessary healthcare services in the Region.
