Powers Health begins construction of expansive medical building in Munster

Construction is underway for a five-story outpatient center on the Community Hospital campus in Munster. 

The facility will house physician offices and outpatient services, including cardiac rehabilitation, imaging, infusion, neurology, physical therapy and noninvasive cardiology procedures currently provided at Community Hospital. 

“This transition allows us to repurpose that space for additional private patient rooms and expanded inpatient care,” Randy Neiswonger, CEO of Community Hospital, said. “This is an investment in the health and future of our community.” 

The 125,724-square foot center, anticipated to open in early 2028, is located at 802 MacArthur Blvd. between the Community Medical Professional Center at 800 MacArthur Blvd. and the parking garage. The parking garage was expanded in 2024 in anticipation of the new building. 

During construction, Braden Way will be closed to traffic at Calumet Avenue. 

Project partners include Larson-Danielson Construction and JMA Architects. More than 200 construction jobs are being created for this project. 

The outpatient center, estimated to cost $80 million, is part of a larger vision with a multiple phase expansion planned for the coming years. Once complete, the facility will occupy a total footprint of approximately 440,000 square feet. 

Community Hospital is Northwest Indiana’s largest hospital with 454 beds and specializes in advanced Cancer Care, Cardiology, Neurosciences, Mother-baby care and Orthopedic services. The hospital treats complex stroke with the elite designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center serving all of northern Indiana. In addition, Community Hospital offers Lake County’s only dedicated Obstetric Emergency Department for expectant and postpartum women, staffed 24/7 by specialty nurses and board-certified OB/GYNs.
