The Winamac Old Auto Club returned to Team Chevrolet Valparaiso on October 4 to celebrate the club’s 75th anniversary. The Winamac Old Auto Club has been bringing car enthusiasts together since October of 1950 and continues to see strong support from its members and the community.
“When we go to nursing homes, it is so amazing to see people come out and enjoy the cars. You see that smile on their faces and not only that, you also get to hear the stories of their cars as well, which is really, really amazing,” Owen Boren, membership committee chairman for the Winamac Old Auto Club, said.
The Team Chevy lot was packed with cars, both classic and modern. The club is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of antique vehicles, so many cars at the meet-up were nearly as old as the club. The club doesn’t exclude more modern makes, however, meaning there’s something for everyone to enjoy when celebrating with the Winamac Old Auto Club.
The club is family-friendly and does a lot in its local community, creating a strong membership of over 80 families throughout the Region.
“In the Winamac Old Auto Club, you have your friends and club members who will back you up and help you in any way they can. Owen here lines up a lunch in Hebron at PAVS, from November to about May, when our events start. In the winter, we also hang out together, so in the end, we’re together pretty much all year round,” said President of the Winamac Old Auto Club Glen Ewen.
The relationships extend beyond just members in the club. Team Chevy has been a long-time supporter of the club, playing host to the club’s annual car show in the spring and fall. The team at Team Chevy even fired up the grill to serve attendees as they explored the different vehicles and enjoyed each other’s company.
“It has always been our most active show. Valpo is a great location, and they have been wonderful. They give us a great lunch and overall really take care of us. We really appreciate what Team Chevy does for us,” said Glen Ewen.
The bonds created during Winamac Old Auto Club events make the club more like a family. Whether hosting shows, participating in parades, or rolling out to the local retirement community, the Winamac Old Auto Club has a reach in the Region matching its storied history.
“Right now, we’re gonna start doing quite a few trunk or treats. Coming up, we have some in Chesterton, Portage, and Crown Point,” Owen Boren, membership committee chairman for the Winamac Old Auto Club, said.
With 75 years of success, the Winamac Old Auto Club shows no sign of slowing down. Learn more about where the club will be by checking out the “Squeak and Rattle” for October!
Team Chevy is always happy to host the club and looks forward to having them back again in the spring.
“Every car that they bring in, we donate money back to this car club. It’s just that’s what it’s all about, getting involved in the community and helping out in different areas anywhere that we can. This is probably the biggest car show that we’ve had. We had a great turnout today, and I think just the great weather brought everybody out,” General Manager at Team Chevrolet of Valparaiso, David Brubaker, said.
