Surf Internet celebrates Independence Day with Goshen community at Fireworks on the Fairway

The Goshen community took to the greens at Black Squirrel Golf Club on July 4 for the 2025 Fireworks on the Fairway. Featuring local food trucks, great company, and an unforgettable fireworks display, the free event once again brought people together for a cherished holiday tradition.

Surf Internet, a returning key sponsor of the event, was proud to help make the celebration possible and to form meaningful connections with attendees this Independence Day.

“Supporting local events is one of Surf Internet’s defining values,” said Faith Rumfelt, regional market manager for Surf Internet. “We don’t just serve customers — we serve our neighbors.”

Fireworks on the Fairway is a community event with deep roots in Goshen. For years, it brought residents together in celebration of the red, white, and blue — until it became no longer feasible to host. When Black Squirrel’s current leadership took over the club in 2023, they made it a priority to bring the event back, something only possible with the support of key sponsorships from local businesses.

Surf Internet has been a sponsor since the event’s return and sees celebrations like this as vital to Goshen’s wellbeing, offering a meaningful way to connect with the community it first called home.

Ahead of the fireworks display, attendees enjoyed dinner, live music, and a chance to learn more about Surf Internet, the high-speed fiber-optic internet provider serving many throughout Northern Indiana. During the festivities, Surf also raffled off a golf course membership.

As families spread out across the fairway for the main event, Surf Internet CEO Gene Crusie couldn’t hide the smile on his face.

“This event has been an icon of the community for pretty much my whole life, so it’s an honor to be part of it and to help bring it back,” he said. “I think it’s important for people to see us because we live, work, and play in the community… We started here first. This is our first community. We have around 12,000 houses that use our services here.”

Attendees echoed that sense of pride and unity, welcoming the chance to come together and celebrate what connects them.

“What’s really special about Goshen’s fireworks is that they’re presented by a private group of individuals, and they really stepped up to make sure this gift to the community continues on,” said Mayor Gina Leichty. “They’ve been doing it year after year, and so there’s lots of business partners and sponsors and volunteers and collaboration that wouldn’t happen without that really strong leadership. We’re really fortunate to have a group like Black Squirrel who’s willing to step up and make it all happen.”
