On Saturday, June 13, the streets around Sojourner Truth House (STH) will once again come alive with purpose. The Walk for STH is more than just a walk, it is a declaration of dignity, a celebration of community, and a promise to the women and families STH serves: you are not alone.
Now in its 27th year, the Walk for STH is a beloved tradition that rallies friends, families, and neighbors together in a bold stand against hunger and homelessness. Every step taken is a message of hope. Every dollar raised helps unlock real change—providing case management, job readiness training, emotional support, and nourishing food.
“The Walk reminds us that even in a world full of challenges, compassion can still lead the way,” said Angela Paul, Executive Director of STH. “When we come together, step by step, we send a powerful message that everyone deserves stability, dignity, and a future full of possibility.”
Founded in 1997 and named for one of history’s most fearless voices for justice, Sojourner Truth House carries forward her legacy by helping women and families reclaim their lives.
The Walk begins at 8:30 A.M. at Sojourner Truth House, 410 W. 13th Avenue in Gary. This year’s event features a carnival theme with fun for the whole family: games, a DJ, local vendors, popcorn and hot dogs, snow cones, door prizes, and more. Gary Mayor Eddie Melton will serve as Grand Marshal U. S. Congressman Frank Mrvan will also be in attendance.
Whether you decide to walk or cheer from the sidelines, your support makes a difference. Come walk with us—for courage, for justice, for change.
