Records Fall as Blackhawks Compete in Stacked Westville Showcase

The 2nd Annual Westville Blackhawk Small School Invite brought together a highly competitive field Saturday, featuring Andrean, Oregon-Davis, Lighthouse Charter, Illiana Christian, Knox, Lake Station, and Marquette Catholic. The meet lived up to its billing, highlighted by numerous meet records and strong performances across all events.
In the team standings, Illiana Christian and Andrean shared the team championship, each finishing with 133 points. Knox placed third with 100 points, followed by Marquette Catholic (97) and Lake Station Edison (56). Westville finished seventh with 20 points.
Westville senior Jacub Ensign delivered a standout performance in his final appearance at the Blackhawk Invite. Ensign qualified for finals in three events, placing eighth in the long jump (16-6.5), third in discus (102-4.5), and fifth in shot put (33-4). His discus throw ranks ninth on Westville’s all-time list.
Sophomore Sebastian Smolnicky continued his strong season with personal best performances in both distance events. He placed fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.40, moving him to second on the school’s all-time list. He also finished sixth in the 1600 meters in 5:17.98, ranking fourth all-time at Westville.
Additional highlights for the Blackhawks included senior Camden Kaiser recording a personal best in discus (70-8), freshman Jack Lacny posting a personal best in the 400 meters (1:13.43), and junior Connor Keen adding a personal best in the 400 meters (1:04.77) .
The meet featured strong performances throughout, with athletes from multiple schools contributing to a fast-paced and competitive atmosphere.
Westville will return to action Tuesday, April 28, at the PCC Round Robin meet hosted by Kouts High School at 4:30 p.m.
