This September, the YMCA of Greater Michiana is offering a simple way for community members to prioritize their health and routine. Through the Y’s “Pay the Day” join fee promotion, new members can join for as little as $1 on September 1—with the fee increasing by just one dollar each day through the end of the month.
The promotion is available at all YMCA of Greater Michiana locations: Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA, Niles-Buchanan YMCA, Downtown South Bend YMCA, YMCA O’Brien Center. It removes financial barriers while inviting people of all ages to experience what the Y has to offer—whether that’s group fitness, youth programs, swim lessons, or senior wellness classes.
“We know that fall is a time when families settle into new routines,” said Jill Haboush, Chief Development Officer for the YMCA of Greater Michiana. “This promotion is our way of saying: let us be part of that routine. Whether you want to get stronger, make new friends, or find after-school care for your child, we’re here to help.”
More Than a Gym
While many know the YMCA for its fitness centers and pools, the organization’s reach goes much deeper. From free monthly soup nights held October through March to cancer recovery programs like LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, the Y is built on a mission to strengthen the whole community—body, mind, and spirit.
“When people join the Y, they’re not just joining a gym,” Haboush said. “They’re becoming part of a place that believes in access for all, supports local families, and helps people through every stage of life.”
What’s Included with Membership?
YMCA members enjoy a variety of wellness and family-focused benefits, with amenities varying by location. Core offerings include:
Additional services like health coaching are also available. Visitors are encouraged to stop in for a tour and explore what their local branch offers.
How to Join
The earlier you join in September, the more you save. For example, joining on September 1 means your join fee is just $1. On September 15, it’s $15—and so on. Regular join fees are typically $30 to $50, so signing up early in the month can offer substantial savings for most members. Note: Veterans and seniors ages 65 and older never pay a join fee.
Regular monthly membership rates still apply, and all memberships include access to any of the Y’s four regional locations. New members can stop by for a tour or visit ymcagm.org to learn more.
“We’re here to listen and guide people toward what’s right for them,” Haboush said. “Whether it’s fitness, family time, or finding support during life’s challenges, there’s a place for everyone at the Y.”
