Goshen Community Schools Welcomes Nationally Recognized Learning Scientist Dr. Pooja K. Agarwal

Goshen Community Schools (GCS) will welcome nationally recognized cognitive scientist and  educator Dr. Pooja K. Agarwal on Monday, August 10, for a full day of professional learning and family  engagement as the district prepares for the 2026–27 school year. 

Dr. Agarwal will begin the day by delivering the keynote, “How to Unleash the Science of Learning,” to all GCS  teachers and staff. Her presentation will focus on practical, research-based instructional strategies that help  students learn more effectively, retain information longer, and build confidence in the classroom. 

Following the keynote, Dr. Agarwal will lead collaborative sessions with district and building leaders,  principals, assistant principals, Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSAs), and teacher leaders from both  elementary and secondary schools. These sessions will allow school leaders to explore how evidence-based  learning strategies can be incorporated into classrooms across the district. 

The day will conclude with a free evening session for parents and families, reinforcing GCS’s ongoing  commitment to strengthening partnerships between home and school. During the session, Dr. Agarwal will  share practical strategies families can use to support learning at home, strengthen memory and study habits,  and help children feel more confident and successful in school. 

“We know that excellent teaching and strong family partnerships have a lasting impact on student success,”  said Superintendent Jim DuBois. “Bringing Dr. Agarwal to Goshen gives our educators and families the  opportunity to learn from one of the nation’s leading experts on how students learn. 

Dr. Agarwal is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Berklee College of Music, founder of  RetrievalPractice.org, and author of the books Powerful Teaching and Smart Teaching Stronger Learning. Her  research has been recognized by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education and  featured by organizations including The New York Times, Education Week, Scientific American, and NPR. 

The evening parent session will take place from 6:00–7:00 p.m. in Goshen High School’s Auditorium and is  free and open to all GCS families.
