The Elkhart County CVB will welcome an exciting new art exhibition to Elkhart County for summer 2028, Trolls: A Field Study, by internationally renowned Danish artist Thomas Dambo.

From Memorial Day through September 30, 2028, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to discover 12 larger-than-life trolls as they explore, learn about humanity, and see the world from a little different perspective.

These playful exhibits are sure to delight people of all ages as Trolls: A Field Study combines public art, storytelling, nature and exploration. The Elkhart County CVB is working with Imagine, a global leader in immersive storytelling and experiential design, and partners across Elkhart County to finalize the 12 locations.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing this experience to Elkhart County in partnership with Imagine,” said Jon Hunsberger, executive director of the Elkhart County CVB. “Imagine specializes in developing world-class exhibitions, and we’re excited to have their expertise behind this experience.”

Elkhart County is an ideal location for Trolls: A Field Study since we are a community built on craftsmanship and creativity, with incredible parks, trails and outdoor spaces and communities that love welcoming visitors and encouraging exploration. This public art exhibition builds on other successful initiatives such as the annual Quilt Gardens, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2027, and Seward Johnson sculpture exhibitions in 2017 and 2022.

At the heart of Trolls: A Field Study is Thomas Dambo, the Danish artist whose larger-than-life troll sculptures have become a global phenomenon. Dambo’s trolls are known for their enormous scale, incredible personalities and use of reclaimed materials, and A Field Study follows 12 young trolls as they travel around and learn about all of humankind’s quirks. Each troll has its own personality and story, inviting all to look at the world from a different perspective.

The Elkhart County CVB, Imagine, and project partners are working to create an experience that feels thoughtful, connected and distinctly Elkhart County.

The Elkhart County CVB expects to announce the 12 locations as well as other details related to Trolls: A Field Study in Elkhart County as they become finalized.
