Crown Point Athletics Marks Fourth Ice Show

Crown Point Learn to Skaters are going for the gold this weekend.

Crown Point Athletics will host its fourth Learn to Skate showcase from 3-5 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 21, on the Timothy Grzych Ice Rink at Bulldog Park. This year’s theme focuses around the Olympics.

The skaters will show off their new skills with special solo and group performances. Families, friends and the community are welcome to attend. Admission is free.

“It’s great to see how our Learn to Skate program has grown since we opened the ice rink in 2018,” said PACE Director Adam Graper. “Our ice rink is busy all season long with open skate, in-house programming and hockey games at the high school and collegiate levels.”

The showcase is led by Learn to Skate Instructor Sara Rhoades, an ice skater of 30 years with nearly two decades of coaching experience. Prior to becoming the Learn to Skate instructor, Rhoades coached at Midwest Training & Ice Center, Homewood-Flossmoor and in Hammond.

“The ice show gives the kids an opportunity to show off what they have learned over the season. Seeing how happy they are when they complete the program makes it all worth it to me,” Rhoades said. “Learn to Skate focuses on having fun and finding a love for the ice.”

Crown Point Athletics hosts two Learn to Skate sessions annually for children and adults. The five-week program begins in November and goes through February, weather permitting. For more information, visit crownpoint.info/leagueapps.
