Boss Industries blows by competition to win LEAP Olympics trophy

On the sunny Tuesday morning of June 2, Boss Industries was presented with the hard-earned LEAP Olympics trophy outside their company headquarters.

The LEAP Olympics, hosted by the La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership, is a battle between businesses. Multiple sporting competitions take place across several weeks, and La Porte businesses field different rosters to face off against their peers. The LEAP Olympics are won by the best-performing company across all events, and this year, Boss Industries came out on top.

The Boss Industries team gathered outside their office to accept the well-earned new hardware. Nick Dames, Boss Industries’ Vice President of Operations, looked back fondly on how competitive this year’s LEAP Olympics were, and how much sweeter the event’s strong competition made their victory.

“I will give props to the team from Jaeger-Unitek. They were competing every time, and that’s one of the biggest things that we enjoyed – we were tied every week. We’d win one event, they’d win the other event, and we tied all the way through. Then when we won kickball, we snuck up on them by one point,” Dames said.

Boss Industries has competed in the LEAP Olympics for four years. While winning feels fantastic, Boss Industries enjoys what the event gives to the La Porte community, win or lose.

“It’s a great event for team building,” said Boss Industries President Todd Hudson, “and camaraderie with all the other companies, as well as meeting other people in our area. It’s a great event that LEAP puts together – we’re happy to contribute and continue to participate.”

The LEAP Olympics doesn’t just bring businesses and coworkers together; it brings their families together, too. Dames and his son, who has been interning at Boss Industries, teamed up to win the corn hole competition. Families of other employees also attend different events as both spectators and participants.

“We had a lot of families start showing up for stuff. Spouses would come hang out for a little while, and they were able to jump in and join. It was a great event,” Dames said.

The LEAP Olympics is a wonderful event that brings local businesses together to network, and their families together to bond. It also serves as a fun and competitive outlet for residents of La Porte, and the trophy currently sits with this year’s champions, Boss Industries. The trophy switches hands whenever a new champion is crowned, and it may not sit with Boss Industries forever- but the memories made, with peers, rival businesses, and family, will all last a lifetime.
