Local Jazz legend Billy Foster to headline dynamic matinee concert at IU Northwest

Foster to play at Arts and Sciences Mainstage Theater on Sept. 20

Renowned jazz composer, piano virtuoso and lifelong educator Billy Foster will bring his signature blend of artistry and passion to Indiana University Northwest with a matinee concert at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, in the Mainstage Theater of the Arts and Sciences Building, 3415 Broadway, Gary.

A household name in Chicago and Northwest Indiana jazz circles, Foster’s career began at age seven with the gift of a piano. This spark grew into decades of performance, composition and music education.

For over 40 years, his distinctive style and profound knowledge of jazz have inspired audiences and students alike.
The concert will feature Foster alongside his vocalist wife, Renee, and a seven-piece band, performing a mix of beloved jazz standards and original compositions.

A faculty member at IU Northwest’s School of the Arts, Foster has been instrumental in expanding the campus’s music program and mentoring the next generation of musicians.

Beyond the stage and classroom, he is a passionate advocate for the American Association of Cancer Research, sharing his journey with metastatic kidney cancer and championing the life-saving impact of clinical trials.

Following the performance, a private reception will honor Foster’s collaborations with medical charities and organizations he supports through his music.
